ABSTRACT

  • The role of 18-fluoro-deoxyglucose (FDG)-PET/computed tomography (CT) in infection and aseptic inflammatory disorders continues to evolve.
  • In addition to multiple reviews, the joint guidance by The European Association of Nuclear Medicine/Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (EANM/SNMMI) published in 2012 is a recent combined endeavor to look at the promising areas could translate into the routine management of these treatable conditions and it is imperative that further versions would evolve based upon growing evidence of its utility in the literature.
  • In addition to its diagnostic role, FDG-PET can be potentially used for assessing early treatment response that could be useful in tailoring the treatment.
