ABSTRACT

Although, a large variety of metals and alloys become superconducting at liquid helium temperature but mainly Nb3Sn and Nb-Ti are commercially available for large scale magnet production for various applications. Nb-Ti is widely used for magnet of moderate field strength (up to 6.5 Tesla at 4.2 K). An on-line fabrication facility was set up using many shop floor innovations which has facilitated CICC fabrication in a comparatively small space. 200m long 30kA hybrid CICC has been fabricated using this facility. The present paper highlights the details of fabrication flow sheet and characterization at different stages of the fabrication.
