Structural properties of multiwall carbon nanotubes syn thesized by different routes viz., resin pyrol-ysis, catalytic chemical vapor deposition and spray pyrolysis were studied. The multiwall carbon nanotubes were synthesized under the optimized experimental parameters in the respective meth-ods. There is a significant effect of the synthesis conditions on the structure of carbon nanotube. The structural features of carbon nanotubes such as degree of crystallinity, tube diameter, tube morphology and bundling behavior were investigated in detail by applying relevant characteriza-tion techniques viz., scanning electron microscopy, Raman Spectroscopy, XRD, EDX, ICP-AES,TG and SANS. Yield of as synthesized carbon nanotube was observed in the following order:CNT by spray pyrolysis method < resin pyrolysis<catalytic chemical vapor deposition. In terms of purity, uniformity in diameter and orderness of MWCNTs, the following trend was observed: CNT by resin pyrolysis<catalytic chemical vapor deposition < spray pyrolysis method. The electrochemical behavior of as synthesized MWCNTs from different routes were discussed with respect to alkaline electrolysis of water for hydrogen generation. |
