ABSTRACT
A radiotracer investigation was carried out to characterize flow dynamics of liquid phase in a pulsed sieve plate column (PSPC). Technetium-99m as sodium pertechnetate was selected and used as a radiotracer. Residence time distribution of liquid phase was measured at different operating conditions. Two different mathematical models i.e. axial dispersion and tanks-in-series with backmixing models were used to simulate the experimental data. Analysis of the experimental data revealed that flow of liquid in the PSPC can be approximated as an axially dispersed plug flow.
