ABSTRACT

The distribution coefficient (Kd) values are used in determining the fate of radionuclide behavior in marine environment. The paper presents the results of the variation in the distribution coefficient (Kd), in field condition. The geometric mean of Kd for cesium and radium along west coast was 2.5 x 103 and 3.5 x 103, along south coast 2.2 x 102 and 2.1 x 104 and along east coast 2.3 x 103 and 1.4 x 104 respectively. Higher Kd value of 137Cs was observed in west coast while, minimum Kd was observed in the south coast. Higher radium Kd at few locations reflects existence of high deposits of Th and U bearing sediments.
