ABSTRACT

The present work describes the synthesis and characterization of Y-Fe-Garnets for the development of RF circulators which requires disc of diameter 50 mm and density 5g/cc. For synthesis of the garnet, iron oxide (>99.5% purity) and yttrium oxide (>99.9% purity) were mixed in stoichiometric amount, cold pressed into pellets of 50 mm diameter and annealed at different temperatures. For the formation of disc and achieving the theoretical density of the garnet annealing under high vacuum was also carried. The fabricated disc was characterized byXRD, magnetization, XPS and Mössbauer spectra. The observed change in magnetization was correlated with change in the chemical state of the elements due to annealing condition and changes in the Mössbauer spectra.
